Former Premier League player, Clarke Carlisle, has been seriously injured after being hit by a lorry near York yesterday.

The 35-year-old was airlifted to hospital after a collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian. Carlisle, who finished his career with Northampton after spells at Blackpool, Burnley, QPR and Leeds, went on to become chairman of the Professional Footballers Association. A number of his former team mates, clubs and fellow professionals have since come out in support of the centre back in the hope that he can make a full recovery as he remains in hospital.
