Roy Keane has welcomed news that Jack Grealish could be about to commit to the Republic of Ireland.

The Aston Villa winger stated at the weekend that it was always his intention to take a year out but that he was hoping to play for the Irish in the future. And, despite Keane looking to have a lost a little patience with the teenager back in November when he stated that he wouldn’t be chasing the England-born player to pull on the green of the Irish senior side, he believes that it would be a good thing if Grealish came on board. “That’s good news,” Keane reacted to the player’s comments. “Jack’s a good player. I’ve mentioned players coming through, you need good quality players coming through for the bigger picture of Irish football. “Fingers crossed he’ll make the right decision. I’ve a lot of time for Jack. He’s a good, good player.” Grealish was awarded U21 Player of the Year at the FAI International Awards on Saturday night and he has featured for the Republic the whole way through his underage international career.
