Doubts cast over the future of Antonio Conte as Italy manager

This is potentially good news for Ireland fans, not so much if you're an Italian.

All is not well between the Italy manager Antonio Conte and Italian football power brokers, according to his predecessor. According to Cesare Prandelli, the Serie A's decision to schedule the Italian Cup Final after the conclusion of the season, and to restrict a February training camp, has irked Conte. Prandelli told Gazzetta World that he was surprised by the Italian clubs reluctance to compromise with the national team manager, and warned it could drive him out of the job. "This continues to be complicated, even though the two parties should speak more and find a common ground," Prandelli said."The priority of the club always takes precedent. However the national team represents all the clubs. Until proven otherwise, it allows players to increase in value as well... For a coach it is tough because then everyone expects the national team to be perfect." When asked how much effect the issues with the Serie A would have on Conte's decision to stay with the team, Prandelli said: "A lot." Whether his position becomes untenable before Euro 2016, remains to be seen.
