Liverpool have rejected an enormous bid for striker Darwin Nunez, according to reports.
The Uruguay international has endured a difficult spell in Merseyside following his move from Benfica in 2022 and his future has become the centre of speculation.
There were questions asked as to whether he could live up to the £64m price tag, which is expected to rise to £85m, but he has lacked consistency.
This season he has just four goals and as many assists in 26 appearances across all competitions.
Throughout his Liverpool career, he has fired home 37 times in 122 appearances, adding 21 assists.
As the January transfer window opened, Nunez was linked to AC Milan who were said to be preparing a bid for the 25-year-old.
Reports in Italy suggested that the Italian giants were plotting a move for the striker, initially on a six-month loan with an obligation to sign the Uruguayan for £41.5million in the summer.
However, the Daily Mail reported that the Reds had not been contacted about his availability.
As first reported by Anfield Watch, it has emerged that Saudi side Al-Hilal has reportedly offered £70m for the striker, which the club has rejected.
It has been claimed that several Saudi Arabian clubs are interested in Nunez with the Pro league leaders showing the most intent to sign him.
It has been suggested that head coach Jorge Jesus is looking for a replacement for Neymar and has an eye on strengthening their attack.
It has been reported that Liverpool want £85m to part ways with the striker and FSG's head of football, Michael Edwards is handling negotiations, as opposed to Richard Hughes - who was appointed as the new sporting director in the summer.
Fans took to X to share their own views on the situation with one saying: "Rejecting £70m from Al-Hilal for Darwin Nunez is absolutely fucking crazy. Take. The. Money."
A second said: "You take £70, for Darwin Nunez and run. Simple as that."
Others doubted the reports: "Ha! As if we would turn down £70m for Darwin Nunez. Respectfully, nobody is bidding that much for him, not even a Saudi club.
"If they were, we should bite their hand off, even if we don’t sign anyone else, I would happily use Jaden Danns as an option off the bench."
