Daniel Sturridge leaves Liverpool’s La Manga training camp early

With no European or FA Cup football on the agenda for Liverpool for the remainder of the season, Jürgen Klopp and his side have travelled to La Manga for a mid-season training camp.

Daniel Sturridge, however, has not lasted the duration, with the club confirming on Friday that the striker will be returning to England a few days ahead of his teammates. A brief update on the club's website confirmed that Sturridge, who had been linked with a move away from Anfield in recent months, had left the camp due to a virus. The announcement revealed that Sturridge was unwell when the team left for Spain, but expressed an eagerness to participate in the double sessions that were scheduled. However, with his condition not improving, the 27-year-old will now head back to Liverpool and resume training at Melwood when feeling well enough to do so. The rest of Liverpool's squad are expected to Merseyside on Sunday, leaving them with over a week to prepare for their league meeting with struggling champions Leicester City on Monday February 27. After a slow start to 2017, Klopp will hope the recent 2-0 victory over Tottenham will spark a return to form for his team, who currently sit fifth in the table.
