Cillian Sheridan puts his Ireland caps down to hilarious initiation song

In the latest episode of our new podcast House of Football, we were joined by former Ireland and Celtic striker Cillian Sheridan and League of Ireland legend Alan Cawley. Sheridan has played across the globe, from Scotland to Bulgaria, Cyprus to Poland, New Zealand to Israel. The current Dundee centre forward also earned three caps for Ireland and told the story of his unique initiation song. The well-travelled striker discussed the age-old footballing tradition of initiation songs and his memorable performance after he was called up to the Ireland squad by Giovanni Trapattoni back in 2010. "I think my initiation song got me my caps, that's how good it was!" said Sheridan, as he began to recall his own rendition of a 1990s dance classic. "We went down for dinner and the lads were saying, 'You're going to have to do your song', and I didn't know what I was going to do. "Darren O'Dea said, 'Just go up just make up a freestyle rap, make up a song on the spot, that'll be brilliant.", recalled the 34-year-old. So I got up on the chair and I started off Eiffel 65's Blue," Sheridan said. "So I start the song, 'So, listen up, here's a story' and then it comes to the chorus bit just before that, I've gone... 'And he ain't got nobody to listen, to listen... REMIX... I'm new (Instead of 'I'm Blue')...' "I just had Trapattoni looking at me like, 'What the f*** is this?" The former Bayern Munich and Juventus manager watched on in astonishment, as the striker delivered what was certainly a 'unique' initiation performance.
