Christy Fagan was named PFAI Player of the Year last night, capping a great week for the St Pat's striker.
St Patrick’s Athletic’s Christy Fagan was named Player of the Year at last night's PFAI awards ceremony last night. The striker collects the award less than a week after scoring both goals at the Aviva Stadium in the FAI Cup final win over Derry City. Fagan was also the league's top goalscorer, netting 20 times in 32 games as St Pat's finishing third. Since joining the Inchicore club in 2012, the 25 year-old has scored an impressive 40 goals in 89 appearances and was also the first player to score 20 goals in a league season for the club since 1956.
Dundalk's Daryl Horgan was named PFAI Young Player of the Year at the ceremony held in Dublin's Gibson Hotel and Lilywhites manager Stephen Kenny picked up the PFAI Manager of the Year award, in recognition of guiding the side to their first league title since 1995. While RTE's Jimmy 'Memory Man' McGee picked up a special PFAI Merit Award.
St Pat's manager Liam Buckley is hopeful Fagan will remain in Inchicore, despite rumoured interest from Shamrock Rovers, and Chesterfield in England's League One. 'He can do better at Pat’s and that is where we hope he will be next year' Buckley told the
Mirror after the Cup final. 'We will be looking to make sure he stays'. 'He has scored 20 goals in the league. With your back to goal, that is very difficult particularly the way I like to play'.
