The former Ajax defender has plenty of experience of English benches
If Oldham are hoping to make a big splash with their next managerial hire then they should look no further than former Chelsea defender Winston Bogarde.
The Dutch international has formally applied for the position, reports the Daily Mail, which was vacated by Lee Johnson, who left the club to join League One rivals Barnsley.
The centre-back was a Champions League winner with Ajax but is infamous for the £10million he earned during his four-year spell at Chelsea, where languished first on the bench and then in the reserves, before spending his final months at the club training with the youth team.
Bogarde was also an applicant for the Motherwell job earlier this season.
Oldham are, perhaps unsurprisingly, looking elsewhere, and have reportedly approached former Manchester United star Paul Scholes, a childhood Oldham fan, about dipping his toe into the managerial waters, while Iain Dowie and ex-West Brom boss Alan Irvine are also among the favourites for the position.
