Carlos Tevez announces his retirement after ‘losing his number one fan’

Tevez won three Premier League titles, two Scudetti, and the Champions League.

Former Manchester City and Manchester United striker Carlos Tevez has confirmed his retirement after he said he could no longer continue playing following the death of his father last year. The Argentinian revealed that he had rejected offers from the United States as he decided to bring his successful career to an end at the age of 38. Tevez, who won three Premier League titles, two Italian league titles and the Champions League, last played for boyhood club Boca Juniors before leaving in June 2021.

Tevez 'lost his number one fan' last year.

The former striker announced that he has decided to stop playing after 'losing his number one fan' - his adopted father, Segundo Raimundo, who died following complications from covid in February last year. Confirming his retirement in a statement, Tevez said: "I have retired, it is confirmed.

"They offered me many things, including from the United States. But that's it, I have given everything.

"Playing the last year was very difficult but I was able to see my old man. I stopped playing because I lost my number one fan."

Tevez began his career with Boca Juniors before moving to Corinthians. The Argentine then signed for West Ham and later made the move Manchester United. During his time at Old Trafford, he was part of the side which won back-to-back league titles and the Champions League in 2008.

However, after leaving the Red Devils to sign for city rivals Manchester City - which resulted in the infamous 'Welcome to Manchester' banner - his status at United quickly turned from hero to villain. Tevez was instrumental in City winning their first trophy in more than three decades when they lifted the FA Cup in 2011 and then the league title in 2012. After four years at the Etihad Stadium, the striker made the switch to Juventus in 2013. Following this, he enjoyed spells at Boca and Shanghai Shenhua before returning to Argentina in 2018.

The frontman also won 76 caps for Argentina, scoring 13 goals and registering 13 assists. Tevez finished as a runner-up at three editions of the Copa America.
