Brendan Rodgers may not be pleased to hear what Frank de Boer has said about the Liverpool job

It must be tiring being Brendan Rodgers.

Every day at the moment brings more questions, more speculation, more drama. It would help if performances on the pitch were in any way easing the relentlessness of the rumours surrounding Liverpool but, as emphasised by Thursday's night's draw with Sion, the fans are not happy with displays that are as painfully mundane as anything under Houllier, Benitez or Hodgson. OK, maybe not Hodgson. One thing that has been in Rodgers' favour is the club's owners, FSG, are apparently reluctant to appoint Jurgen Klopp, who would appear to be the standout candidate among out-of-work managers. But now another candidate – one previously linked with the club – has spoken of his interest in the job and in moving to the Premier League. Ajax coach Frank de Boer was strongly linked with the Anfield job before Rodgers was appointed in 2012. He would no doubt be one of the favourites if FSG were to cut the chord with the Northern Irishman, and the 45-year-old Dutchman has now revealed his interest, albeit at the end of the season.

"They are fantastic clubs," said De Boer, when asked by BBC World Service about potential vacancies at Liverpool and Newcastle. "Liverpool and Newcastle - with supporters behind them - it is a fantastic environment to coach but this year it is important for me to do well at Ajax and then we will see." "Yes, I think every year [moving to the Premier League] comes closer of course. "I'm looking maybe for another adventure. If there is an interesting club that I think with my quality I can make that team better – if I can, than I will take that chance."

De Boer clearly says that he wishes to see out the season in Amsterdam, but with Rodgers' statement on Thursday that he believes Liverpool are rebuilding again, it may suit all concerned to wait until the summer. De Boer's statement that he is 'looking for an adventure' seems pretty emphatic. Though with Liverpool and Newcastle the names mentioned you'd have to wonder if they classify as an adventure or a nightmare. Brendan Rodgers and Steve McClaren might be inclined to say the latter.
