Brendan Rodgers is Celtic boss but his contract is an odd one

This man is back in football... but was he ever away?

Sacked from Liverpool earlier this season, the Northern Irishman has accepted a one-year rolling contract with the Scottish champions. The appointment pours concrete on the Roy Keane speculation and scoffs wildly at reports linking Martin O'Neill to a return to Paradise. Rodgers has previously managed at Reading and Swansea. He took Liverpool to the brink of league glory in 2013/14 only for the side to falter after losing star player Luis Suarez to Barcelona. Rodgers comments:

"This is genuinely a huge honour for me. I have followed Celtic all my life and to be given this fantastic opportunity and to be part of such a truly great football club is a dream come true. "I will give my new role everything I have and do all I can to bring our supporters exciting, entertaining and winning football. "The Club has been in magnificent shape in recent years and has collected silverware regularly during this time. My objective now, of course, is to continue this work, to keep us at the top and again make our mark in Europe."

There were another couple of sentences in which he paid tribute to the Celtic fans and expressed an eagerness to get started but not a single mention of 'character'. Give it time. Rodgers will be officially unveiled at 4pm on Monday, May 23.
