Atletico Madrid will look for €200 million for Antoine Griezmann after Barcelona triggered the French international's release clause on Friday.
Griezmann, represented by his lawyer, appeared at the headquarters of the Professional Football League to unilaterally terminate his contract with Atlético de Madrid, however, the club believe that the amount deposited is insufficient to meet its rescission clause.
Atletico claim that the commitment of the player and Barcelona was closed before the clause was reduced from 200 to 120 million euros and was prior to the date (May 14) on which the clause was modified.
Atlético Madrid believes that the termination of the contract occurred before the end of last season due to events, acts and demonstrations carried out by the player and that is why he has already started the procedures he considered appropriate for the defense of his rights and interests legitimate.
Earlier on Friday Barcelona announced the signing of Griezmann on their website with the club claiming that they had paid the 120 million euro buyout clause to release Griezmann from Atlético Madrid.
The club claimed the player will sign a contract with his new club for the next five seasons, through to 30 June 2024, with a buyout clause of 800 million euros.
