The former Crystal Palace winger came to an agreement with Villa manager Dean Smith to end his loan, after he had struggled for game time in recent weeks.
Put simply, Villa can't afford to pay a substitute his entire wage of £70,000 a week.
Villa also see no possibility of the 29-year-old being signed permanently in the summer, so have decided to prematurely end the loan deal.
