Reports in today's Sunday People suggest there was a faction within the Aston Villa squad that were delighted when Roy Keane decided to step down from his role as Paul Lambert's assistant. Keane cited his commitment to Ireland and their Euro 2016 campaign as he walked away from the Birmingham side on Friday morning. The newspaper reports that, upon confirmation of Keane's departure, the Villa dressing room erupted in spontaneous applause and cheering. Keane had a fractious relationship with many Sunderland and Ipswich players during his spells in club management but, by most accounts, he was well regarded by Villa's senior players. Villa drew against Burnley on Saturday after giving away a late penalty that Danny Ings converted. Lambert told the club website, 'We should have won it. We should have been out of the sight in the first half to be honest. 'With the chances in the first half, we should have put the game to bed.'Explore more on these topics:
