This news is hardly going to make Louis van Gaal's position at Old Trafford feel any more secure.
The Dutch manager place in the Manchester United dugout would become that bit more uncomfortable if the Red Devils lose to hated rivals Liverpool today, and the prospect of club legend Alex Ferguson coming back into the picture will surely give an increasingly impatient fanbase even more cause to call for Van Gaal's head.
The Sunday People reports that should Van Gaal receive his marching orders before the end of the season, Ferguson would be willing to come out of retirement to assist likely interim manager Ryan Giggs, currently LVG's number two.
The story claims that while Ferguson would have no interest in coming back to the dugout, the 74-year-old would answer any call for help from the novice boss, and be 'prepared to take on a hands-on role behind the scenes to help fellow club legend Giggs'.
Ferguson remains an ambassador for the club, has been cautious when it comes to discussing the club's performances since he stepped down in 2013.
