The always great Barney Ronay has dug up a gem of a stat on the Manchester United captain
Manchester United scraped their way to a 1-1 draw with West Ham yesterday. The result keeps them in the top four (just) but questions over the team's style of play and overall effectiveness continues.
The Guardian's Barney Ronay looks at how the team is set up in his piece today, with the focus being on the withdrawn role of captain and most senior figure Wayne Rooney.
Ronay argues the case that having Rooney on the right of midfield is a waste of one of the club's all-time leading goalscorers and he supplements his argument with this killer stat:
'Wayne Rooney has not had a shot on target in the Premier League in 2015'
Even allowing for his position on the field it seems incredible that a man with 166 Premier League goals for the club would not muster a single effort on target in the five league games he has played for United in 2015.
