The Liverpool fans booed God Save The King at Anfield, ahead of their Premier League clash with Brentford.
On the day of King Charles’ Coronation, it was ‘strongly suggested’ to all home clubs to play the anthem by the Premier League. Liverpool only did so ‘reluctantly,’ according to reports.Boos rang around the Merseyside ground the second it was announced by the Anfield PA that the national anthem would be played. Both sets of players shuffled into the centre circle, to stand shoulder to shoulder during the anthem. Jordan Henderson was the only Liverpool player that could be seen singing along to the anthem - fellow Englishmen Trent Alexander Arnold and Curtis Jones didn't appear to be as boos and chants of ‘Liverpool, Liverpool’ took over. The anthem was followed by Liverpool’s traditional pre-match tune, You’ll Never Walk Alone, and this, predictably, was met with loud cheers.

This is not a recent phenomenon - Liverpool’s fans have been booing the national anthem for years - with some of them chanting 'you can stick your coronation up your a**e' at last week's match against Fulham. It is said that, if it wasn't for the nationwide backlash they would have been subjected to, Liverpool wouldn't have played the anthem. Many supporters brought banners, with many of them saying that there's only one king - Kenny Dalglish.
