In typically French style, France followed up their win over Australia by losing to Argentina in Paris

The Argentines popped a wispy balloon of French optimism last weekend when they defeated Les Bleus 18-13. Absorbed as we were in Ireland's winning exploits against Australia, we assumed the French didn't show up - metaphorically, spiritually and physically. They gave it a good crack, however, but ran into a light blue and white wall. Argentina's immense defensive effort was summed up by this amazing tackle on 18st 13lbs centre Mathieu Bastareaud by 13st 10lbs out-half Santiago Iglesias. The disparity - over five stone. The result - 'Basta' on his ass. Magnifique.
