WATCH: PRO12 clash in Cardiff brought forth the most ludicrous refereeing decision of the season

What on earth did he see?

OK. What?

Lloyd Linton, what the hell were you thinking?

Friday night’s Guinness PRO12 meeting of Cardiff Blues and Scarlets was always going to be an interesting encounter given the brother vs. brother narrative at play.

Scarlets’ Aaron Shingler was coming up against younger brother Steven in the Arms Park and both found themselves at the centre of a refereeing decision that literally beggars belief.

Entering the last 10 minutes of play and with the home side trailing by 11, the ball ricocheted off a Scarlets leg and into midfield.

It became a footrace involving both Shingler siblings and one that ended when Steven tackled Aaron off the ball.

It was a clear yellow… A clear yellow for Steven Shingler.

But, bizarrely, the official saw something completely different to all other eye-owners and flashed yellow in the direction of the brother who was guilty of nothing more than being hauled to the turf against his will.

What the referee thought he witnessed is beyond us but if he’s unable to tell the difference between a tackler and a player being tackled then perhaps he’s in the wrong business.

Tackling is quite a big part of rugby, or so we hear.
