Warren Gatland snaps back at Eddie Jones ahead of Six Nations finale

Jack O'Toole

Wales head coach Warren Gatland has fired back at England head coach Eddie Jones after the Australian said that his side looked a bit ‘fatigued’ ahead of their Grand Slam decider with Ireland on Saturday.

Wales will look to secure their first Grand Slam win since 2012 while Joe Schmidt’s Ireland will look to keep their faint championship hopes alive and will need to rely on some help from Scotland against England if they are to defend their crown.

“What the hell is Eddie Jones doing talking about our game?,” Gatland asked.

“If it was me, I would be concentrating on playing Scotland. I’ve got no comment on Eddie Jones talking about us.

“If you look at the stats, England have made a hell of a lot more tackles than us in this tournament.

“My advice to Eddie is to concentrate on the Scotland match.”

Meanwhile for Ireland Rob Kearney returns to the backline after his late withdrawal against France last week, while Schmidt was forced to reshuffle his pack on account of Josh van der Flier’s injury.

Flanker Sean O’Brien comes in at openside joining Peter O’Mahony and CJ Stander in the back row while Tadhg Beirne has been given the opportunity to show what he can do on the brightest stage at the Principality Stadium as he partners James Ryan in the second-row.
