Warren Gatland can’t possibly ignore this performance from Joey Carbery

He could easily be considered as a bolter

Did someone say bolter?

Ok…

Maybe we’re getting a little bit ahead of ourselves here but we think everyone can agree that Joey Carbery’s performance today was bloody incredible.

Let’s take a quick look at this stats from today’s game.

  • First of all he set up two tries with some excellent passing and awareness.
  • He made a whopping 25 carries which yielded an incredible 200 metres.
  • One clean line break and one defender beaten.

He is naturally an out-half but his play from full-back today will easily begin the conversation that the 21-year-old can excel in this position too.

And it’s not hard to see why based on this performance.

He did everything that was asked of him from a defensive perspective but his ability to join in on the attack and make a huge impact in this regard should be widely lauded.

There was plenty of talk before this match of Danny Cipriani potentially getting on the plane to New Zealand but his performance was completely overshadowed by that of Carbery’s.

The New Zealand born youngster played like a man with experience well beyond his years.

Let’s not forget the opposition which his side faced today.

Wasps are littered with world-class players and internationals from all over the world and Carbery took it all in his stride.

He was a class above.

His performance today certainly didn’t go unnoticed.

Did someone say Lions?

Leinster ran out 32-17 winners and Carbery deservedly won man-of-the-match.

There is always one surprise package when a Lions squad is announced and after today’s performance, you wouldn’t be mad to think it may well be Carbery.
