Super Rugby star red carded for tackle that saw opponent land on his neck

Kevin McGillicuddy

Willie le Roux is a very lucky man.

The Sharks full-back was in action in a much-anticipated clash with Highlanders in Super Rugby.

However, the South African was involved in one of the most dangerous acts of play we’ve seen this year on a pitch when he was upended in spectacular fashion by centre Jason Emery after just 13 minutes.

The authorities are likely to take a very dim view of Emery’s attempts to tackle his opponent who was several feet off the ground.

Emery was show a red card and is also likely to face a longer ban after his dangerous play on the field.

But, in fairness to him, he took to Twitter after the match to apologise for his tackle with La Roux responding to the gesture.
