Ireland make interesting captaincy decision following Rory Best injury

Jack O'Toole

Ireland captain Rory Best has been ruled out of Ireland’s summer tour of Australia with a hamstring injury.

Best has been replaced by Munster hooker Niall Scannell in the squad with Scannell joining Leinster’s Sean Cronin and Ulster’s Rob Herring as the other rakes in the Ireland squad.

Ireland head coach Joe Schmidt has said that Leinster fly-half Johnny Sexton and Munster captain Peter O’Mahony may share captaincy responsibilities on tour as Ireland head to Australia for the first time since 2010.
