PIC: Irish Lions fans have a new favourite beer thanks to this cheeky bit of “Brit” trolling

Fair play to Moa NZ Gold Ale

Mikey Stafford

New Zealanders love a little joke.

Driving around the country you could be forgiven for wondering what came first, the business idea or the company name?

The cornerstone of many small companies seems to be a funny name (Beaver Liquor off licenses in Queenstown being a prime example), and when it comes to advertising they can be similarly cheeky.

With the eyes of the rugby world trained on the Land of the Long White Cloud for the next six weeks, there is an opportunity for enterprising businesses to attract some global attention with the right Lions-themed ad campaign.

So, hats off to Moa NZ Gold Ale, they have us writing about their beer thanks to these posters.

There is very little not to like about this. Firstly it reminds us all that it was Ireland who ended New Zealand’s 18-game unbeaten streak in Chicago last November, we do like to be reminded of that.

Secondly, there is a less than subtle dig at our closest neighbours, which is okay when others are doing it…

Thirdly, who doesn’t like beer?

So, raise a glass to Moa NZ Gold Ale on a job well done.
