“He was the one who laid down the law in the huddle before the game, doing the pointing and screaming” said the English man.Andrew Trimble who played with O’Mahony with Ireland was not surprised at all.
“That doesn’t surprise me at all because he demands high standards and he knows the game inside out and he always has,” the Ulster man explained. “There’s always a little highlight reel with two or three massive moments and he’s always right in the middle of them. "Whether it be intercepting a lineout, poaching or the chip that went through and he just plucked it. It looked like he was miles away and he just plucked it, long arms.”Trimble also said that the public perception of O’Mahony is probably different to the team's and that he’s different on the pitch to what he is off the pitch.
“I’d say he’s quite different off the pitch than he is on the pitch. That’s why I’d say the public perception of him is quite different to how he is in the team. “He’s just like anyone else, just one of the boys, good lad, good craic but there is that kind of serious side to him."O’Mahony certainly led from the front on Saturday and inspired this Irish team to one of their best wins ever on a famous night for Irish rugby.
