No prizes for guessing the Ireland Try of the Year winner

Conan Doherty

Jamie Heaslip, take a bow.

Ireland team, take a bow.

It wasn’t a great Six Nations campaign but it brought with it the best of tries.

During the dismantling of Italy, Ireland cut through the opposition like a scolding knife through melting butter to produce the greatest try of the Joe Schmidt era.

Nine passes, 80 metres, 19 scintillating seconds.

The wonderful team move was finished off by the brute strength of Jamie Heaslip and it was the Leinster man who scooped the honour at the IRUPA awards on Wednesday night when he clinched Try of the Year.

There’d hardly be too many arguments.
