Munster fans will be rubbing their hands with glee when they see this Top 14 team of the week

The Top 14 is an exhaustingly, brutally, expensively tough competition.

Just this last weekend we saw Clermont battle to a 23-23 draw away to Ian Madigan’s Bordeaux, Toulon lose at home to leaders La Rochelle, Toulouse lose at home to Pau and Ronan O’Gara’s Racing lose away to Lyon.

That is a weekend of upsets and incredible performances and it is unsurprising that players from La Rochelle and Pau account for six of the best XV named in Monday’s Midi Olympique. You beat serial European champions in their own backyards, you are going to gain some recognition.

Munster fans, however, will be more interested in the man named at outside centre in the rugby bible’s team of the weekend.

Grenoble were 44-22 winners at home to Stade Francais in a seven-try Alpine thriller.

Chris Farrell scored the final try for Bernard Jackman’s side as they lifted themselves off the foot of the table with a win over the 2015 French champions.

Farrell, who will be joining Munster this summer, acquitted himself well in the centre against former Springbok Meyer Bosman and Fijian Waisea Nayacalevu.

A former Ireland Under-20 international, Ulsterman Farrell looks like an excellent addition to a developing Munster midfield.
