Lions finally leave the gym but the pitch sessions look even tougher

Some of these drills look a serious slog

Patrick McCarry

‘Right lads, we’re hitting the pitch today!’

You can just imagine the relief.

After three days of gym-heavy sessions, the British & Irish Lions skeleton squad were taken out into the Welsh sunshine at Vale of Glamorgan.

The sun was shining, the facilities were top notch and the pitch looked pristine.

That is where their good fortune expired.

Warren Gatland, Andy Farrell, Graham Rowntree and their fellow Lions coaches put the 14 Lions not in club action through the wringer this morning before sending them off to cool down. Judging by Inpho’s latest set of pictures, it looks like the lads will need the rest.

Lions captain Sam Warburton is gradually integrating back into the full swing of things after his knee injury.

The black sacks full of door-knobs were out in force…

And Rory Best didn’t leave a single ounce of effort for another day.

Four days down and we hope Gatland and his staff ease up on the advance training part soon. Leave some for the Kiwis.
