Irish fans unveil best flag of Lions tour and it involves Peter O’Mahony

Well played boys

Patrick McCarry

A flag that sums up the high regard Peter O’Mahony is held in by Irish fans.

The Munster captain has now led the Lions in two tour games, including the First Test loss to New Zealand, and he will hope to be involved in this weekend’s Second Test.

Having come into the Lions squad, back in April, as an outsider, O’Mahony has proved to be a true talisman and leader on, and off, the pitch.

His captaincy honour has made thousands of travelling Irish supporters proud and, on Tuesday morning in Wellington, two of them showed off a flag that was a re-working on a classic Paul O’Connell joke.

The famous Paulie flag was on show on the 2013 Lions Tour to Australia – Superman wears Paul O’Connell pyjamas – and it was a cracker.

It was almost as good as this gem:

A word or two, too, about the attire of one of the proud flag-bearers.

All. In.

Love the commitment.
