If you like Leinster and Ulster, you will love Ireland’s latest squad

Big chances for a lot of players

Patrick McCarry

Not a Munster or Connacht player in sight, understandably enough.

Joe Schmidt has named an Ireland squad full of Ulster and Leinster players, for Thursday’s game against the Barbarians in Thomond Park.

28 players have been named for the exhibition match in Limerick, with Jamie Heaslip captaining the side.

There are interesting call-ups for Ben Marshall, Cian Kellher, Tadhg Furlong and Collie O’Shea of Leinster as well as welcome returns for Ulster’s Chris Henry and Luke Marshall.

There are, of course, no Munster players in the squad as Anthony Foley’s men are in the Guinness PRO12 final this Saturday.

Connacht’s season ended on Sunday but a four-day turnaround after extra-time heartache, against Gloucester, may have been too much of an ask.
