Eden Hazard gives his pick for the Ballon d’Or

Chelsea and Belgium winger Eden Hazard has said that he does not deserve the Ballon d’Or award.

Hazard has had an incredible season for both club and country but does not believe that he deserves football’s most esteemed individual honour and added that he thinks that France forward Kylian Mbappe deserves the award this year.

“Even though I had a very good year, we have to keep our feet on the ground,” Hazard told RTBF. “I do not deserve the Ballon d’Or. I think there are players who have been better than me.

“I would have said Luka Modric, but he plays a little less well since August or September, so if we take into account the beginning of the season, I would say Kylian Mbappe.

“The goal for me is not to have the Ballon d’Or, it is to maximise fun on the pitch. If I win it one day, so much the better, if I don’t it, it will not be a problem.”

Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric is the prohibitive favourite for this year’s award and is followed by Juventus forward Cristiano Ronaldo, Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann and Madrid defender Raphael Varane as the bookmakers favourites.
