Conor Murray signs contract extension keeping him at Munster until 2022

Good news this morning for Munster fans..

Irish scrum half Conor Murray has signed an IRFU contract extension that will keep him at Munster until 2022.

Not only will Munster fans be delighted, but Irish fans will also be happy int he knowledge that one of our key players will remain on these shores for the next few seasons.

Speaking to Munster Rugby’s YouTube channel, Murray cited that it was an easy decision for him to sign on with Munster once more.

“Pretty easy decision really, it didn’t take long for me to decide.

“The place I grew up, watching Munster play and wanting to play for Munster. Luckily I have managed to do that a few times, now I get to look forward to doing it a couple more.”

Murray spoke about some of his favourite memories so far with the provincial team, and hopes that there will be a few more memorable outings over the next three years.

“We lifted a bit of silverware in 2011 and we haven’t done so since so, that was a pretty good highlight, I think a lot of the away days in France, just to see the travelling support and what it means to people and what their willing to spend.

“The last few seasons, we’ve gotten quite close, hopefully in the next two or three years we can push on and go one more.”

The world-class scrum half spoke of his joy at getting to play in a packed out Thomond Park on big European nights.

“I think having a stadium like Thomond Park and filling it out for European games there’s nothing like it.

“It’s a really special time to be a Munster player when you get to represent Munster in Europe.”

Murray highlighted his joy at committing once more to the Ireland national team, and hopes that they can carry their rich vein of form through to the 2019 World Cup in Japan.

“I’ve managed to have some great days in a green jersey, that was obviously part of the reason I wanted to stay here and experience that again.

“We’ve a great team and a great set-up in Ireland at the moment. We’re really competitive squad and competitive group that want to play and win.”

“Looking to this November we’ve a great chance, obviously everyone’s talking about the All Black game. It’s a massive test to see where we are at.”

Murray addressed his injury problems that have kept him out of the side so far this season saying that he hopes to be back very soon.
