Connacht fan comes up with novel way to use umbrella on wretched night in Galway

Brutal weather out west

God, it was an absolute dog of a night at The Sportsground.

Connacht did what they had to against Zebre and got a bonus point for their troubles, on a dreadful night in Galway.

Pat Lam’s men beat the Italians 33-3 to go up to seventh in the Guinness PRO12 standings, just two points off the Champions Cup places. They were lucky to get a game going at all, judging by the pictures on TG4 and from the Inpho gang…

When play finally got underway, Connacht hit the front with tries from Niyi Adeolokun and Naulia Dawai.

It was slick going out there and Bundee Aki soon knew all about it…

One legendary Connacht fan arrived at the ground well prepared. They were armed with an umbrella that was doing its job until a gust of wind made short work of it.

Still, innovation and all that.

Connacht sealed the deal in the second half with tries from Tiernan O’Halloran, Lewis Stevenson and a penalty try.

The league champions are back in form and Lam could still leave the province with European rugby next season.

Elsewhere, Ulster beat Treviso at Kingspan Stadium in a game that featured fine tries for Jared Payne, Charles Piutau and Sean Reidy.
