Brumbies hooker Folau Fainga’a has received a red card for headbutting Bulls prop Mattys Basson in his side’s 38-28 win in Pretoria on Saturday.

Fainga’a nudged his head towards Basson’s nose and received a straight red card from referee Marius van der Westhuizen for the incident.

The win is just the Brumbies fourth win of the season and they trailed by one point when Fainga’a was dismissed and by four points not longer after a Handre Pollard penalty.

Full-back Tom Banks scored a brilliant individual try to put the Brumbies in front before Andy Muirhead sealed the win when he crossed over for a try out wide in the 76th minute.

Banks said after the game that the Brumbies were able to snap a five-game losing streak by sticking to their structures.

“It’s been a long tour, it was a hard effort last week but good to play some running rugby,” Banks told The Canberra Times.

“It comes down to confidence and belief. Even though we were down to 14 men n the end I think we just stuck to our structure and got the win in the end.

“I’m enjoying it, it was a big move for me to go down to Canberra but I’m loving it.”
