An Irish-qualified New Zealander is leaving the NRL to play in Ireland next season

How long until we call this guy the next Sonny Bill Williams or the biggest disappointment since Man of Steel, Andy Farrell?

Rugby fans love to prematurely judge whether or not a rugby league convert can adapt to the 15-man game and Irish supporters will get a chance to scruntise a former NRL player up close next season.

Pat Lam has announced that Apirana Pewhairangi of the New Zealand Warriors will join the Connacht squad ahead of next season, and the former Irish rugby league international is expected to play as either a centre or a wing.

Pewhairangi is eligible for Ireland as his grandmother was born here and you can find out a bit more about him here.
