Gareth Bale has announced his retirement at just 33 years of age, but what a career the Welshman has managed to pack into this time. From a promising prospect at Southampton to flop-turned-hero at Tottenham Hotspur, to hero-turned-flop at Real Madrid - and forever a hero for Wales - Bale has had an incredible career. It's hard to believe that he started out as a full back, only to become his country's greatest goalscorer and a true giant on the European stage with Madrid. One of the key members of the new 'Galacticos' at the Spanish capital, Bale was truly one of the biggest stars ever produced from the British Isles. That's not to say that he didn't have his critics, especially from his own fans, but now with the benefit of hindsight we can all look back and marvel at the illustrious journey he has been on.
