We thought we got just about all the big hits and talking points from a frenetic UFC 180 in Mexico but the fight that followed straight after the main event was even more shocking again. Leslie Smith and Jessica Eye were battling out an enthralling match-up in the only women's bout on the UFC 180 card but it was stopped in the second round when Smith's ear virtually exploded and was almost torn off her head. The American suffers from cauliflower ear and, when Jessica Eye caught her straight on the left side of her head, a gruesome splatter of blood burst into the air as Smith's ear was left hanging perilously. In fairness, after stopping the fight between the rounds to let the doctor assess the initial damage, the referee gave Smith a chance to continue but, although she didn't want to stop and was even trying to rally up a bemused crowd to let the match continue, the fight was stopped as the injury worsened and Eye was awarded a TKO much to the relief of the shocked crowd still peering out from between their fingers. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RLDjDgqXdRY We've even thrown in a couple of more clips, just in case you missed any of the blood splatter.
