Derrick Lewis gave one of the most memorable post-fight interviews in sporting history at UFC 229

James Dawson

Lewis has a simple explanation for taking off his shorts at UFC 229: “My balls was hot.”

While most of the fallout from UFC 229 has focused around the post-match beatdown delivered to Conor McGregor following his defeat against Khabib Nurmagomedov, there was at least a lighter moment on the UFC 229 card after Derrick Lewis KO’ed Alexander Volkov earlier in the night.

Having lagged behind for the majority of the fight, Lewis landed a right hand in the closing stages to knock out Volkov at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Following the win, the now 21-5  ‘Black Beast’ whipped off his shorts in front of the crowd leading to a hilarious post-match interview with Joe Rogan.

Asked why he’d chosen to forgo his pants the 33-year-old heavyweight simply replied: “Because my balls were hot.”

He then jokingly added that Donald Trump had been the inspiration behind his comeback:

“I forgot a few hours before the fight, Donald Trump called me and told me I got to knock this Russian motherfucker out. They making him look bad on the news, him and Putin and shit. Shit what they talking about? USA in this ho.”

Asked about whether he would soon be in contention for the heavyweight title, he admitted he needed to undergo some serious cardio training:

“I need to sit my black ass down and do some more cardio. Shit, what you talking about right now? I ain’t trying to fight for no title right now, not with no gas tank like that.”

Finally, he said he was up for smoking some weed with Rogan in the future. He said: “Thanks for having me. Hey, next week or maybe two weeks from now, I’m gonna come on your show and smoke some weed with you.”

Naturally, people on social media were loving it:
