Dana White explains exactly why Conor McGregor will fight Floyd Mayweather

He's changed his tune...

Dana White reckons Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather will inevitably fight.

The once unlikely bout between the best boxer of his generation and the biggest star in mixed martial arts appears to be inching closer to becoming a reality.

Mayweather has said he is willing to come out of retirement to make it happen, while McGregor now appears to have the blessing of the UFC.

White has said that he thinks the fight will go ahead, and that the Irish fighter could trouble Mayweather.

The UFC president reckons that the money involved in the potential bout means that it will inevitably be staged.

“I do think it’s going to happen,” White said on Conan O’Brien’s talkshow.

“I think it’s going to be a tough deal, because, obviously, there are a lot of egos involved in this deal and a lot of people, so that always make it tougher.

“[But] on the flip side, there’s so much money involved, I just don’t see how it doesn’t happen.”

White seems to have completely changed his mind about the fight. In February, White dismissed any suggestion it would take place, saying:

“He’s (McGregor under contract with me. How would I let somebody take this guy that I built and do it without me? That would be the stupidest move in history.”

Now White appears to think it’s inevitable, and even backed southpaw McGregor to pose Mayweather a threat in the bout.

“Floyd is definitely not knocking him out. That’s for sure,” the UFC president said.
