Cowboy Cerrone offers to fight at UFC 203 at less than 24 hours’ notice

This is getting ridiculous now.

There’s late notice, and then there’s this.

We all had our reservations when Michael Bisping offered to fight Daniel Cormier at UFC 200 just a couple of days before the bout following Jon Jones’ failed drugs test, and he rightly didn’t enter the Octagon on that occasion.

But Cowboy Cerrone has gone one better, texting Dana White less than 24 hours before UFC 203 and telling the UFC president he’s ready to step in for CB Dollaway.

The news comes amid now confirmed reports from TMZ that Robbie Lawler – Cowboy’s proposed UFC 205 opponent – will no longer fight in New York in November.

Dollaway was due to face Francimar Barroso in a light heavyweight bout in Cleveland, and the promotion has given no indication that the 33-year-old is out of UFC 203.

The news was confirmed when Cleveland woke for the big day:

Considering that a move up to light heavyweight would represent a jump of two divisions for Cerrone, who only stepped up to welterweight earlier this year, we’re filing this one in the ‘very little chance’ pile.

That’s not to say we’re not both impressed and just a little concerned by the American’s willingness to step up and step forward so close to the fight.
