Could Conor McGregor really fight welterweight champion Robbie Lawler at UFC 200?

Fans are going crazy for this.

Conor McGregor has already said he wants to be a three-weight world champion.

But McGregor says a lot.

Having said that, there are more and more noises suggesting that if ‘The Notorious’ beats lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos on March 5 then a welterweight superfight could actually be on the cards.

Leading MMA journalist Jeremy Botter posited the theory that McGregor vs. Lawler could even take place at UFC 200.

It might not be that crazy after all. SBG head coach John Kavanagh claims McGregor is comfortable against welterweights like training partner Gunnar Nelson and McGregor walks around at about 180 lbs so he wouldn’t exactly be a tiny 170 lber.

A fight with Ruthless would bring in insane PPV numbers and with McGregor’s growing sway within the UFC, Dana White would find it hard not to give the Irishman a shot.

The welterweight champion spoke earlier this year about a possible match-up with the featherweight kingpin and top 170 lber Stephen Thompson reckons McGregor wouldn’t be out of his comfort zone among most welterweights.

It’s certainly a fight UFC fans would want. Lawler is one of the most exciting fighters in the organisation and with McGregor’s unique brand of braggadocio and knock-out power, it would be incredible to watch.
