Conor McGregor’s first tweet since making history encapsulates a lifetime’s work

Conor McGregor has made UFC history with his victory over Eddie Alvarez.

The Irish fighter stopped his opponent in the second round of their bout at Madison Square Garden in New York, stunning him with a trademark left, before unloading a flurry of punches that Alvarez had no answer to. Making history isn't meant to look that easy, but McGregor is now the first two-weight champion in the 23-year history of the UFC, adding the lightweight title to the featherweight strap he won against Jose Aldo last December. McGregor also announced he is to become a father next year, before delivering a message to the UFC brass in his post-fight press conference. The 28-year-old has long stated his ambition to be a two-weight UFC champion, and four years after achieving the feat in the Cage Warriors promotion, he has done so in the world's top MMA promotion.
