That’s called being In The Zone, kids.
Conor McGregor has revealed he was so completely focused on the battle at hand against Jose Aldo at UFC 194 that he was ready to take down referee Big John McCarthy as well.
McGregor finished off the Brazilian champion with a record-breaking 13-second knockout in Las Vegas earlier this month, with McCarthy stepping in to save the defenceless Aldo from further punishment.
And the Notorious claims that he was so caught up in the moment that he positioned himself and was ready to take down McCarthy after he hauled the Dubliner away from his opponent.
McGregor has posted an aerial shot of the scene following the stoppage that shows him apparently ready to swing back into action against what he calls ‘a second attacker’.
It’s a remarkable insight into the mindset of a mixed martial artist in the octagon, and particularly McGregor, who sees every fight as a genuine real-life fight scenario.
The post reads:
Most will see 1 unconscious man here.
I see a clean get up about to happen in a fight against multiple attackers.
Hips away, strong frame with the left hand, right hand post on the mat with bottom leg free for a clean get up.
If Big John was a second attacker, he is in trouble. I am a split second away from being back to my feet here.
With his outstretched, forward reaching pressure, and his torso separated from his hips, Big John is ending up face down after the get up.
Two or three quick cracks to his temple and I make my escape clean.
Two attackers immobilized.
What’s up Las Vegas.
