If you’re looking for a summer job in Carlow, Willie Mullins is your man

Niall McIntyre

Willie Mullins is hiring.

Fresh from an outstanding week at the Punchestown Festival and another Irish champion trainer winning season, the most successful handler in horse racing is straight back to work.

A new season begins in earnest at Kilbeggan racecourse on Monday evening and Willie Mullins is already rearing for the challenge. It’s far from basking in the glory of a 12th trainers crown he will be, the Carlow trainer isn’t one for resting on his laurels.

And that insatiable appetite for more and more success even when he has done it all before is the type of ruthlessness that makes him the best.

In an interview with The Voice of Ireland Gary O’Brien on At The Races in the aftermath of his rip-roaring Kildare conquering, it all became clear.

When asked if he would be taking a holiday, recharging the batteries for a while on the back of his explosive trail of prospeiry, Mullins’ answer spoke volumes.

“I’m not sure I’m one for long holidays. I find it so hard to take up the thread again when I come back…It (success) comes with a lot of hard work, but that’s the trade, and if you want to be good at something, you’ve got to go for what you want.”

Mullins knows what he wants.

With the number of horses in his Closutton yard in county Carlow increasing in line with his domination of the game, it is no surprise that the maestro’s resources are being stretched.

On Monday morning he took to Twitter to announce that there are a host of jobs going in his base.

Riders and groundstaff are in high demand this summer and if you’re in the vicinity and in the hunt for a bit of work then Willie Mullins could be the man to sort you out.

He left his email address for anyone who wishes to become a part of one of Ireland’s most successful teams.
