Ryan Moore has scratched another world class race off his bucket list after riding Protectionist to glory in the Melbourne Cup today.
The jockey, who only arrived Down Under 24 hours before the race, streaked past Red Cadeaux in the closing stages to win by four lengths.
The Englishman, who previously had two fifth places finishes to his name in the 'Race that Stops a Nation' was in sparkling form once again as he guided the 7-1 Andreas Wohler shot to glory.
The race was overshadowed somewhat by the deaths of two horses, pre- race favourite Admire Rakti who finished last and subsequently died and Araldo who was put down after suffering a leg injury.
