The world of racing is in mourning today after the announcement of the death of legendary flat jockey Pat Eddery at the age of 63.
The Kildare man was champion jockey in Britain 11 times and won 4,633 races in the UK alone, including 14 Classics, while he also won the Irish Derby and Arc de Triomphe four times each during an astonishing 36-year career in the saddle.
Another hero of the saddle, AP McCoy, led the tributes to Eddery on Twitter:

Pat Eddery has died. My mate and I used to say "if in doubt, bet Edders". Served us well. A legend from our youth
