The trailer for a new Paddy Mullins documentary looks fantastic

Kilkenny native considered the 'godfather' of modern Irish racing

Kevin McGillicuddy

One of Ireland’s greatest horse trainers is being remembered in what looks like a brilliant documentary this coming Christmas night.

Mullins, who ran his operation from his Goresbridge stables in Kilkenny, was the architect of the world famous Mullins dynasty which currently sees Willie,Tom and Tony as well as grandsons Patrick and Danny all involved at the top end of the sport.

The documentary features interviews with wife Maureen and family,as well as some of Ireland’s top trainers presently including  Jonjo O’Neill, Noel Meade, Jim Bolger and John Oxx.

Of course Mullins story couldn’t be told without reference to one of the greatest days ever for Irish racing with Dawn Run’s success at Cheltenham in 1986, and Jonjo O’ Neill and former CEO of Cheltenham, Edward Gillespie, revisit the scene of that iconic Irish sporting moment.

Paddy Mullins – The Great Stayer is free to air on Setanta Ireland on Christmas night at 9pm.
