Black day for racing fans as two horses fatally injured

The second grade one of the day at Sandown the 888Sport Tinkle Creek Chase saw Dodging Bullets romp home at 9/1 to claim this year’s title.

The Paul Nicholls trained and Frankie Dettori bred mount came home just ahead of Somersby and Hinterland.

With no Sprinter Sacre or Sire De Grugy the race was wide open, and with the winner following up on some decent form shown recently at Cheltenham, Sam Twiston-Davies arrived home ahead of the chasing pack by two-and-a-half-lengths.

However the mood of racegoers was somewhat darkened by a heavy fall of the Nicky Henderson trained mount Oscar Whiskey.

Screen were immediately out up around the horse and its just been confirmed that the horse was fatally injured.

It’s been a black day for the sport as earlier the Gordon Elliot mount Balbriggan also died following an incident in the Beecher Chase at Ascot:
