When Bill Murray starts a chant EVERYONE is bound to join in.
While the atmosphere on a lot of golf courses may seem like that of a Zombieland, that wasn't the case at the Hazeltine National Golf Club for the final day of the Ryder Cup on Sunday. Team USA claiming a memorable victory had a lot to do with the jovial spirit around the course, but comedy legend Bill Murray also played a huge role.
The 66-year-old certainly earned his stripes as a fully fledged Team USA supporter as he watched from the grandstand behind the first tee as American Patrick Reed and European Rory McIlroy began their match.
Murray sat watching the competition not as a celebrity, but as a golf fan, and if you took a quick glance at the man donning the multi-coloured bucket hat and shades, you'd be forgiven for not recognising him as the iconic star of beloved films such as Ghostbusters and Groundhog Day.
While Murray sat anonymously in the crowd which had grown a little bit quiet, he decided to try to raise everyone's spirits by single-handedly starting an "America" chant, which unsurprisingly took off in a big way.

Just in case you thought it may have been some chap posing as Murray, here's another angle which definitely proves that it was indeed the What About Bob? star who got the entire US crowd psyched up.

USA went on to win their first Ryder Cup in eight years a few hours after Murray started this chant. There's no way of proving it, but we'd like to think that their success can be attributed to Murray's infectious chant lifting everyone's mood.

This one hurt. Shane Lowry looked odds on to win his first solo PGA Tour title since the 2019 Open, as he held a three-shot lead with three to play at the Cognizant Classic in Palm Beach, Florida. He went into the final day in the lead, and had played his fourth round beautifully, with […]
This is extraordinary! On Sunday at Hollywood Lakes Golf Club in Dublin, playing partners Cian Casey and Gavin Ryan both made holes-in-one on the same hole. The odds of achieving this are simply astronomical, which the club explained on social media. They said: “An almost unbelievable scene unfolded at Hollywood Lakes Golf Club on Sunday, […]
