The Welshman's approach shot secured Europe the title

Jamie Donaldson has won the European Tour’s shot of the year award.

The Welshman’s wedge shot at the 15th at Gleneagles, in the singles match between Donaldson and Keegan Bradley, secured Europe the Ryder Cup. ‘I said at the time I’d just hit the shot of my life,’ Donaldson said. The award is decided by a public vote, and Donaldson received 32% of the vote, ahead of Charl Schwartzel and Frenchman Victor Dubuisson.

Donaldson showed nerves of steel with his approach shot. Europe were leading 13½ to 9½, and the Welsh golfer was 146 yards from the pin, but the Ryder Cup debutant managed to execute a perfect approach shot. Bradley conceded and the Paul McGinley led European side retained the title.

‘I’ll never get tired of talking about it. It was such an amazing moment,’ Donaldson said.
